Great British Energy will be a company owned by the British people, to deliver power back to the British people.
What is Great British Energy?
Great British Energy (GBE) is a proposed publicly owned, clean-energy company announced by the UK government. GBE will manage and operate renewable energy projects, such as wind farms, across the United Kingdom. The company will be headquartered in Scotland and funded by a windfall tax on oil and gas companies.
How Will It Help You?
GBE aims to lower energy bills by investing in clean energy projects, particularly wind farms, which are among the cheapest forms of electricity generation. This investment will increase domestic energy production, reducing reliance on foreign energy sources and enhancing energy security. By creating jobs and building supply chains throughout the UK, GBE will contribute to economic growth and employment opportunities.
Why Do We Need a Publicly Owned Energy Company?
The goal of GBE is for the British public to own and benefit from national resources, rather than having profits go to foreign governments or private entities. Utilising public resources for the common good ensures that profits and benefits from these resources stay within the country, supporting national interests. Currently, foreign governments profit from energy infrastructure in the UK. GBE aims to redirect these profits to benefit the British people instead.
Making Britain a Clean Energy Superpower
GBE is part of the government’s broader strategy to make the UK a leader in clean energy. The initiative includes investing in the industries of the future, with the aim of creating 650,000 jobs by 2030. Additionally, plans to invest in home insulation will help families save on energy bills. The strategy also includes promoting biodiversity, improving access to nature, and protecting landscapes and wildlife.
