GLEG UK Energy Market Update…
May 27, 2025The UK Government has announced a delay to the application window for new entrants to the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme from existing sectors.
🔍 What is the CCA Scheme?
The CCA scheme is a voluntary initiative that enables eligible organisations in energy-intensive sectors to receive discounts on the Climate Change Levy (CCL)—a tax on energy use. In exchange, participants commit to improving their energy efficiency, meeting specific targets set in collaboration with government and sector bodies.
The scheme is administered by the Environment Agency on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and requires participants to track and report energy use and carbon emissions during set two-year periods.
📆 What Was Expected?
Following the Government’s October 2024 response to the CCA consultation, the application window for new entrants from existing sectors was scheduled to open from 1 May to 31 August 2025.
⚠️ What’s Changed?
The Environment Agency, representing DESNZ, has now confirmed this window will not open on 1 May 2025 as originally planned. The delay is necessary to finalise and test a new IT system that will support application processing.
đź“… A revised application window will be communicated in due course.
