If your business meets two of the following three criteria you are most likely captured by the compliance.
- Annual turnover of £36 million
- Balance sheet of £18 million or more
- 250 employees or more
Why?
The aim of SECR is to bring the benefits of reporting carbon emissions to more businesses and for business co2 performance to be in the public domain.
By having carbon performance in the public domain it is hoped business leadership teams will pro-actively encourage and implement energy reduction projects and report on both commercial and environmental benefits.
What?
As a minimum, businesses who qualify are required to measure energy use in gas, electricity and transport and also the following..
- Associated greenhouse gas emissions
- Energy use and GHG figures from the previous year (not applicable in the first report)
- At least one emissions intensity ratio
- Details of the methodology used
- A summary of energy efficiency measures implemented and details of future plans to reduce carbon emissions.
