GLEG UK Energy Market Update…
June 30, 2025The UK government has unveiled an ambitious new Solar Roadmap designed to dramatically increase solar capacity, lower energy costs, and support green economic growth across the country.
The plan aims to reach 45–47GW of solar energy by 2030—enough to power millions of homes—while supporting up to 35,000 jobs and using less than 0.5% of the UK’s land area. With 88% of the public already backing solar, this initiative has strong momentum.
Key focus areas include improving collaboration between government and industry, addressing workforce skill gaps, and scaling up clean energy projects. Since July alone, nearly 3GW of major solar projects have already been approved—more than in the previous 14 years combined.
The roadmap, developed by the Solar Taskforce and soon to be overseen by the new Solar Council, provides a practical blueprint for tackling challenges in planning, grid infrastructure, innovation, and supply chains.
For UK businesses, this presents a major opportunity:
- Reduced energy bills
- Enhanced energy security
- A pathway to meet sustainability targets
- Access to funding incentives and job creation in the clean energy sector
