GLEG UK Energy Market Update 05-10-26…

Floating Wind Capacity Grows by 38%: What Does It Mean for the UK?
October 8, 2026Could Your Business Cut Electricity Costs by Up to 25%?
The BICS application window is now open, giving eligible energy-intensive manufacturers the opportunity to cut their electricity costs by up to 25%.
Successful applicants will also receive a year’s worth of backdated payments, making BICS a significant opportunity for qualifying businesses.
What is BICS?
The British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme (BICS) provides eligible businesses with exemptions from certain policy costs included in their electricity bills, including:
- Renewables Obligation (RO)
- Feed-in Tariffs (FiT)
- Contracts for Difference (CfD)
For manufacturers facing some of the highest industrial electricity prices in Europe, the potential savings could be substantial.
Getting Your BICS Application Right
To prepare a strong application, manufacturers will need to get three key areas right:
SIC code review
Making sure your business activities fall within the relevant eligible categories.
HS6 product code analysis
Reviewing the products you manufacture and identifying which may qualify. Product codes are a common sticking point, and errors can affect both eligibility and the level of support received.
Accurate energy data
Having the right electricity consumption data available to support your application.
It’s also important not to rule your business out too early. Partial eligibility may be possible, even if only some of your products qualify.
How GLEG Can Help
At GLEG, we’re supporting manufacturers through the BICS application process, from SIC and HS6 code analysis through to compiling the energy data needed for an application.
If you’re unsure whether your business or products qualify, get in touch to discuss your position and the evidence you’ll need.
The application window closes on 30 November, so now is the time to act.
